Grantees

Helping pastors thrive in congregational leadership and enhancing the vitality of the congregations they serve

Project directors gather, at the 2019 convening, to discuss how to measure the effectiveness of their programs.

What are the grantees doing?

Gathering pastors to learn from one another and navigate challenges

Thriving in Ministry projects are led by 129 organizations across the United States. These organizations -- including congregations, denominations, religious agencies, universities and seminaries -- have received funding from Lilly Endowment Inc. to implement grant projects supporting pastoral leaders in congregational ministry.

Projects are based in 32 states, but serve all regions of the country. Across the initiative, more than a dozen denominational identities are represented.

Learn more about the individual projects by using the interactive project directory.

Leadership Education provides support to the Thriving in Ministry projects in three key ways: gathering and connecting grantees to one another through an annual gathering, regular online learning opportunities, and occasional newsletters sharing the latest resources.

Learn about upcoming events for grantees on the events page.

We are concentrating on resourcing pastoral leaders around four areas that we believe are critically important to their sense of meaning, purpose and connection: contemplative spirituality, relationships, emotional maturity and self-care.
